Description:
Review the management of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), with a focus on the ECCO & ESPGHAN 2020 guideline updates on CD. This course will also highlight new data published on biologic therapy in the pediatric population since the 2020 guideline update.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course pharmacists should be able to:
- Explain the complications of growth and development that can occur in patients with pediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- Describe the current standard of care for inpatient pediatric IBD management.
- Describe the role of Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis Activity Index (PUCAI) and Pediatric Crohn’s Disease Activity Index (PCDAI) scores in the assessment of pediatric patients with IBD.
- Recognize the role of nutrition in disease progression and IBD management in pediatric patients.
- Describe current and future research directions of pediatric IBD treatment, including new data on biologics.
