This continuing education presentation will focus on the available evidence regarding the optimal strategies in targeted temperature management (TTM). In this course, the indications, available evidence, and the clinical management considerations will be reviewed and discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course pharmacists should be able to:
- Outline the various benefits and complications associated with targeted temperature management.
- Determine appropriate inclusion and exclusion criteria for post-arrest patients being considered for therapeutic hypothermia.
- Describe the phases of therapeutic hypothermia.
- Identify pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions to prevent shivering and how pharmacists can assist in patient management.
- Discuss available literature regarding the different temperature targets and duration of targeted temperature management.
