Description:

This course provides comprehensive information in current diabetes and weight loss medications in independent, community practice settings. The audience will gain experience in evaluating and recommending therapy recommendations, counseling patients about lifestyle interventions, and aiding with high copay burdens in patients with type 2 diabetes and adults with obesity or overweight who also have weight-related medical problems.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Explain currently accepted approaches to managing type 2 diabetes and weight loss with the appropriate use of injectable antidiabetic agents
  2. Review important concepts that contribute to diabetes care such as nutrition and exercise
  3. Describe business opportunities and roles for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in copay assistance strategies for patients with type 2 diabetes and/or obesity
  4. Discuss cost-effective, alternative recommendations when certain medications are unavailable
