This American Pharmacists Month, LLUSP is celebrating the immensely valuable and impressive work of some of our favorite pharmacists. Today, we honor Dr. Nancy Chang from LLUSP's very first graduating class!
"After graduating from Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy in 2006, I completed my PGY1 General Pharmacy Residency Program at Loma Linda University Medical Center. I had always had interest in pediatrics but felt that I needed more general inpatient experience and initially worked mostly with adults. After a few years, I had the opportunity to work in the NICU and LLUMC to gain more experience with helping pediatric patients. Then my dream job came up as a clinical specialist in the pediatric ICU. It was a challenge to be the first PICU specialist but also a great opportunity to involve pharmacists in codes and emergent bedside procedures for this complex patient population. Rounding side by side with physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists has been a blessing to have strong support from the team from Day 1. I am continually working on clinical guidelines and have helped reduce medication errors on a daily basis.
I helped start the PGY2 Pediatric Residency Program as Program Director in 2013 and have been continuously precepting pharmacy students and residents. I love that I am constantly learning about rare disease states one doesn't see in the adult population. We have an amazing interdisciplinary team in the PICU and am proud to be part of this team."
