Loma Linda University’s Schools of Pharmacy (LLUSP) and Dentistry (LLUSD) recently held their Annual Interprofessional Education (IPE) Clinical Case Session at Centennial Complex. This incredible learning experience for pharmacy and dentistry students has been led by Dr. Alireza Hayatshahi, Vice Dean for LLUSP, and Dr. Erin Hicks, Associate Professor for LLUSD, for the past 10 years. During the session, IPE student groups collaboratively reviewed a patient case. Second-year dental (D2) students were tasked with writing prescriptions, which were then verified by third-year pharmacy (P3) students. The activity concluded with an engaging Q&A session and open discussion. This year’s case focused on the use of commonly prescribed analgesics for managing acute post-procedural pain in dental settings.

A heartfelt thank you to all the participating D2 and P3 students for their outstanding professionalism, meaningful clinical knowledge exchange, and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration throughout the event. Also, thanks to both schools’ faculty and staff members who helped to facilitate the event: Dr. Lisa Hong, Dr. Farnoosh Zough, Mr. Erick Gutierrez, Ms. Cherrie Martin, Ms. Rachel Oliver, and Ms. Ashley Vasquez.
