RESIDENCY GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gain the skills and experience necessary to help troubleshoot, monitor, and optimize pharmacy-related functionality of an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Lead the discovery, build, validation, testing, and implementation of at least one major improvement project in the EMR.
- Participate in multiple small projects throughout the year.
- Obtain Epic “proficiency” primarily through self-study.
- Assess current pharmacy operations and apply this knowledge to how Epic and other support systems interact with operations.
- Attend meetings with operational leadership and develop strategies to address institution needs.
- Monitor medication warnings statistics and reports, and develop strategies to reduce alert fatigue.
- Triage, analyze, troubleshoot, and fix tickets related to pharmacy applications.
- Help plan for and manage scheduled and unscheduled system downtime.
- Prepare and deliver lectures to students in the School of Pharmacy and Masters of Health Informatics program.
TEACHING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Residents enrolled into the program will have the option to be included in the Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program. The goal of the program is to provide participants the experience and guidance necessary to understand and apply current educational issues in pharmacy education. In order to earn the certificate, each participant must meet the following requirements:
- Participate in all scheduled sessions and workshops.
- Give two hours of didactic lecture in the Neurology and/or Psychiatry course
- Develop and lead case discussions in the Neurology and or Psychiatry course
- Co-precept one Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) or Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) student, if assigned
- Develop a written statement of teaching philosophy
- Develop a satisfactory teaching portfolio
