Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Understand differences between diagnosis and treatment of sepsis and septic shock
  2. Recognize appropriate patient indications for utilizing corticosteroids in the setting of sepsis
  3. Describe the rationale for steroid use in critically-ill patients based on underlying pathophysiology
  4. Understand and assess the literature behind steroids and dosing strategies in the intensive care unit (ICU)
  5. Evaluate potential benefits and acute effects of steroid administration in critical care settings
